Throughout the years, professional golf events have, and continue to be drawn to our scenic and various golfing options. Lake County was home to the PGA’s BMW Championship in 2013, 2015 and 2017 at Conway Farms Golf Course in Lake Forest.   Lake County also hosted the 2016 LPGA UL Crown at the Merit Club in Gurnee.  The 2012 US Mid-Amateur Championship, 2009 Western Amateur, 2008 US Open Sectional Qualifying and the 2007 Open Qualifier, and the 2000 U.S. Women’s Open were also held in Lake County.

Weave through the winding greens of Thunderhawk Golf Club, designed by architect Robert Trent Jones to blend harmoniously with the natural landscape. Thunderhawk Tip by Alex Eichman, Golf Operations Manager: Practice your lag putting prior to your round. With large, undulating greens good lag putting will be the key to no three-putts and a score that keeps you smiling. Countryside Golf Course course requires a slightly different set of skills to master this challenge. With wide fairways, younger trees and fewer rolling hills, on the Prairie course golfers will deal with more wind; therefore a lower ball flight is more desirable. Tip from Alex: To hit keep the ball under the wind remember four easy steps: 1) take a slightly wider stance, 2) take one less club, 3) choke down two inches, 4) swing slower and maintain your balance.

Sunset Valley Golf Club in Highland Park has undergone an extensive $7 million renovation to the course and clubhouse. The new course reflects a unique British Highlands course design.  Spend time golfing with the Navy in your backyard at Veterans Memorial Golf Course at the Naval Station in Great Lakes which is open to public play. Join the ranks, and earn your stripes at this challenging 18-hole layout boasted as one of the finest facilities in the Navy.
