Join experienced birders for a morning walk through the diverse habitats of Volo Bog State Natural Area and nearby sites, including prairie restorations, woodlands, old fields, marshes and bog landscapes. A total of 193 bird species have been documented at Volo Bog alone, with many often seen or heard before even leaving the parking lot.
Walks take place Saturdays and Sundays at 8 a.m. and cover approximately three miles over the course of two to three or more hours, depending on weather and bird activity.
Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and field guides or borrow from group leaders. Walks are open to adults and attentive children ages six and older.
Meet in the main parking lot unless otherwise noted. Registration is requested. Group size is limited. Walk-ins are welcome if space allows, but walks may be canceled if minimum registration is not met 24 hours in advance.
