The “Of Bogs & Books” adult book discussion series will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the second Saturday of each month this summer at Volo Bog State Natural Area, 28478 W. Brandenburg Road. Discussions are offered both in-person and via Zoom.
The summer 2025 reading selections include:
June 14: The Creeks Will Rise: People Coexisting with Floods by Bill Becker — A look at how communities can adapt to climate change and flooding by collaborating with nature, with a foreword by Bill McKibben.
July 12: Eager: The Surprising, Secret Life of Beavers and Why They Matter by Ben Goldfarb — A deep dive into the ecological importance of beavers and how their reintroduction can help restore damaged landscapes.
Aug. 9: The Language of Butterflies: How Thieves, Hoarders, Scientists, and Other Obsessives Unlocked the Secrets of the World’s Favorite Insect by Wendy Williams — An exploration of butterflies’ science, beauty and cultural importance.
Books are primarily nonfiction and may be found at local bookstores, libraries or online. The series is sponsored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Friends of Volo Bog.
