Ravinia Festival returns with many star-studded names to kick off its season. Since 1905, the Highland Park fest has featured the top musicians spanning various genres, making it the oldest outdoor festival in North America. Opening weekend starts with a Grammy-winning lineup featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill, Chicago, and Jacob Collier. On Friday, Collier is considered one of the most gifted singers providing vocals on myriad genres, including John Mayer, T-Pain, Coldplay, and more. The five-time Grammy winner shares the stage with an acoustic folk-pop trio called Tiny Habits. Maybe you discovered Ms. Hill or L. Boogie as a member of the iconic group the Fugees with Wyclef Jean and Pras, while others may have first seen her as Rita Louise Watson in "Sister Act 2." Wherever you were when you first found out about the songstress, you were somewhere when her first solo album, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," dropped. This album is considered one of the most renowned albums of all time. The eight-time Grammy winner performance is a can't-miss show as Hill exclusively performs songs from the album, as mentioned earlier, celebrating its 25th anniversary. Everyone's favorite Windy City-named band, Chicago, is heading a few miles north to don the Ravinia Festival stage. The rock band, originally named the Chicago Transit Authority after the Second City's bus and "L" system, has sold over 40 million units registering 23 gold, 18 platinum, and eight multi-platinum albums. Chicago shares the stage with special guest Nani. Make it a full-day event by catching the incomparable Ruth Page Civic Ballet and friends Saturday afternoon at the Bennet Gordon Hall, and lose yourself in the sounds of violinist Arnaud Sussmann and pianist Michael Stephen Brown.
Friday-Sunday, June 16-18; Fri.: 7 p.m., Sat.: 1 and 8 p.m., Sun.: 2 and 7 p.m. Collier tickets: $46-$110, Hill tickets: $57-$160, Chicago Tickets: $51-$150 and Bennett Gordon Hall Shows: $15. Ravinia Festival, 201 Ravinia Park Rd., Highland Park.
