Carmel Catholic High School's Street Scenes turns the ripe old age of 60 this year. The Mundelein school's fundraising event's theme this year is "Celebrate the Seasons." Street Scenes festivities include 50 live bands, a casino, improv, theater, a cabaret-style student show, a silent auction and raffle, local eats, and drinks. Lake County Libation Trail partners Buffalo Creek Brewing of Long Grove, Half Day Brewing Co. of Lincolnshire, Mickey Finn's Brewery of Libertyville, Tighthead Brewing Co. of Mundelein, and more will be in attendance.

Make it a "you two" evening of dinner, comedy, and romance hosted by the Holiday Inn Convention Center's Valentine's Day Dinner and Comedy Show. Chuckle till your sides ache with the stand-up stylings of Mike Cannon, 95 WIIL Rock's own Don Wilson and Tom Kief, and an acoustic guitar set with Keith Magnine. Get your ice fishing on at the 63rd annual Chain O'Lakes Ice Fishing Derby and Winter Festival. The dual angler event and winter party have a ton of longevity and history to fulfill your snow fishing expeditions. Pack up your lines, hooks, and spears, and go for the gold to nab some fresh pike, walleye, bass and bluegill at the Land of Lincoln state park. The derby showcases ten fishing categories for large and small fish to win cash prizes. A cash raffle also highlights the Antioch event with earnings up to $1000. The raffle drawing takes place March 17.

All February, we observe African American history. The Waukegan Park District hosts diverse programming this month for the annual commemoration. The Jack Benny Center for the Arts presents its Black History Celebration showcasing music and dance performances, dramatic readings, live performances from African American artists, and more. Across town, the Waukegan History Museum at the Haines House is highlighted by a pop-up exhibit showcasing stories of Waukegan African American past, the Underground Railroad, early Lake County pioneers and leaders, the Frog Island segregated community, and the desegregation of Whittier School. Both City of Progress events are free admission, and the pop-up exhibit runs on select days through February 28.
