WinterFest will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Volo Bog State Natural Area, offering indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. The event features live music, including three sets of nature-themed songs by Tim Southwick Johnson, a family sing-along, and contemporary selections. Photo contest awards will be presented throughout the afternoon, along with snow sculpting awards if conditions allow. Visitors can also enjoy winter nature crafts, bog tours, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking. A suggested donation of $10 per adult is encouraged, with children admitted free. The celebration is hosted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources with support from Friends of Volo Bog.
