The Bonds of War: 96th Illinois Infantry and the Union Cause at the Waukegan History Museum at the Carnegie

Diana Dretske will present on how a photo portrait of unidentified Union soldiers prompted a seven-year project re-examining Lake County’s role in the American Civil War. Her collective biography published by Southern Illinois University Press explores the lives and service of five immigrants from Britain and Ireland and is the most in-depth examination of the 96th Illinois Infantry since the regiment’s history was published in 1887. Also featured will be the vital role Waukegan citizens played in supporting the Union cause.
