The Door County Fish Boil dates back to the late 1800s, when Scandinavian immigrants in Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula devised a simple but flavorful way to feed large groups. Using freshly caught whitefish, potatoes, and onions cooked over an open fire, the fish boil became a signature community event—famous for its dramatic "boil over" and communal spirit. —an exciting spectacle that signals the meal is ready. Once the boil over is complete, the dinner bell is rung to gather everyone for a hearty meal. Today, it’s a cherished tradition that celebrates local ingredients, heritage, and togetherness.
