This weekend, trunk or treat at a bash, dance to a graveyard smash, exclaim a bug beverage in thrice fashion, explore where you live and get lost in a maze of maize. Here are your top things to do this weekend October 23-25
O trick or treat, O trick or treat. How lovely are thy satchels? Visit the Barefoot Bay parking lot as the Mundelein Park District hosts its annual Boo Bash and Trunk or Treat. Local Businesses will provide sweets and treats. The one-way grab & go drive-thru event is free and doesn’t require registration. Fast passes are available to those who want to beat the crowd. The recreation district encourages youngsters ages three-to-11 to wear costumes and bring a bag for candy. All attendees are required to wear masks to and abide by COVID-19 protocols.
Saturday, October 24; 2:30-5 p.m. Free admission. Parental supervision is required. Barefoot Bay Parking Lot, 1461 N. Midlothian Rd., Mundelein.
What’s all of the hubbub happening in Deerfield? The village’s park district is hosting its annual Halloween Hoopla, and with the ongoing public health crisis, Deerfield parks and rec has split this spooky event into a three-part series. This weekend, the hoopla is highlighted by their Family Fun Fest at Jewett Park, which features balloon twisters, Halloween-themed arts and crafts, airbrush tattoos and prepackaged Halloween treats. Participants must preregister for the event as Deerfield Park District is taking all the precautions and following the guidelines for COVID-19. The fest is $5 per person. The festival concludes on October 31 with their Halloween Costume Family Fun Walk at Woodland Park.
Saturday, October 24; 2-4:45 p.m. Preregister online at deerfieldparks.org for a 45-minute time block. Admission: $5 per person. Jewett Park Pavilion, 836 Jewett Park Dr., Deerfield.
“It’s Showtime!” Loft 21 in Lincolnshire, in collaboration with Major League Baseball player’s rising star Tim Anderson of the Chicago White Sox and the League of Leaders Charity, is hosting a makeshift “Spooktacular” drive-in movie theater on Fridays throughout the Halloween season. The Lincolnshire facility will show the 1988 Tim Burton classic “Beetlejuice” starring Michael Keaton, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. The parking lot closes at 8:20 p.m., and if you are not parked by then, your ticket is null and void. All vehicles will be spaced six feet apart, and if you leave your automobile, visitors are required to wear masks. The event also is highlighted by a costume contest, dance party, trivia and prizes, concessions and a cash bar. Loft 21 hosts an October 30 screening of the film “Hocus Pocus.” Enjoy the flick, and remember not to say that bug beverage name three times.

You’ve lived in Lake County for years, but sometimes you miss all of the small things. The Grayslake Heritage Center is inviting individuals to “Be a Tourist in Your Own Town.” The Grayslake entity is providing passports for purchase that will include activities and promotions you can use to explore the village celebrating its 125th born day this year. The Be a Tourist in Your Own Town entries include raffles, outdoor and take-home activities, coupons, special promotions, virtual events and more. Participants are expected to follow the health department and business guidelines when completing passport activities. Passports cost $25.

You’ll be amazed by their maize mazes. Richardson Adventure Farm & Corn Maze is known for having the world’s most massive corn maze. The Spring Grove area spans 33 acres of land and is equipped with 11 miles of trails. The design commemorates the 50th anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement. Earth Day gave a voice to an emerging public consciousness about our planet’s state, and since 1970, we’ve celebrated this holiday in the United States. Besides the famous maze, the Adventure Farm features another five mazes, a zip line, a pumpkin patch, Zorbing rides (a ride inside a giant 11-ball available on weekends), live pig races, a wooded picnic area, free campfires, pedal carts, pedal trikes, a goat farm, a farm carousel and more.
