We have one more weekend before Halloween. Time is running out to enjoy Spooky Season so take a look at the things to do this weekend October 22-24.

Waukegan has a Day of the Dead celebration. Halloween is causing quite the hoopla in Deerfield. Create a glass gourd in Mundelein. There is plenty of frightful things to do at Six Flags Great America. They are celebrating the season at Deer Park Town Center. Let's take at look at the top five things to do this weekend October 22-24.

1. 9th Annual Celebration Dia de Muertos/Day of the Dead at Jack Benny Center

Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a celebration steeped in Latinx culture where families pay tribute to the departed and share memories of loved ones. The Waukegan Park District in partnership with Sugar Skulls Xilotl hosts this annual event at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts and Jane Addams Center in Bowen Park. The free community event will feature traditional altar exhibits, art vendors, delicious cuisine, sugar skull workshops and joyous dance presentations.

Saturday, October 23; noon-5 p.m. Free admission. Jack Benny Center for the Arts, 39 Jack Benny Dr., Waukegan. Jane Addams Center, 95 Jack Benny Dr., Waukegan.

2. Halloween Hoopla: Halloween Family Fest in Deerfield

The month-long hoopla comes to a close this weekend in Deerfield. The Halloween Hoopla Family Fun Fest features pumpkin decorating, seasonally-themed games, arts and crafts, a hayride a trackless train and live entertainment. The Jewett Park Community Center party also is highlighted by a scavenger hunt, a magician, the artful wizardry of balloon twisters and inflatables in the park. Halloween Hoopla visitors are encouraged to don their October 31 costumes. Registration is required for the pumpkin decorating and the family fun fest at deerfieldparks.org.

Saturday, October 23; noon-5:30 p.m. Admission: $5-$6 for visitors ages three and older.  Jewett Park Community Center, 836 Jewett Park Dr., Deerfield.

3. Make Your Own Glass Pumpkin at Peter Patterson Glassworks

Pumpkins have a shelf life of about two to three months. Why not create one that will last forever? Peter Patterson Glassworks in Mundelein is hosting its Make Your Own Glass Pumpkins Open House event. You can always gift your glass creation or use it as an interesting centerpiece for your Halloween feast. The expert glassmakers will guide you through the process in making a gorgeous gourd that will last a lifetime. The Mundelein studio will host pumpkin open houses on November 13-14 and 20-21. Reservations are strongly encouraged, and facemasks are mandatory upon entry. To make a reservation call 847.949.0013.

4. Fright Fest Presented by SNICKERS at Six Flags Great America

The Halloween event of the season continues with Fright Fest Presented by SNICKERS® at Six Flags Great America. The annual Gurnee amusement park staple of thrills by day and frights by night features its world-class coasters, spooky haunted houses, scare zones, live performances and more. Fright Fest is all smiles and pumpkins by day, but when the clock strikes 6 p.m., the ghosts don’t resemble Casper anymore. Surprises are around every corner when navigating your way through six haunted houses including brand new attractions Condemned and Bloodshed. Monsters, ghouls and creatures of the night terrorize coaster enthusiasts as you venture through 10 scare zones. Sing-a-long to spooky songs at one of the seven live performances. Fright Fest may be too intense for children ages 13 and under after 6 p.m. Masks are required in indoor locations including haunted houses. The Six Flags event runs on select days through Sunday, October 31.

Friday-Sunday, October 22-24; Fri.: 5 -11 p.m., Sat.: 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and Sun.: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.  Admission: starts at $44.99 per, Haunted Attractions require separate admissions. Six Flags Great America, 1 Great America Pkwy., Gurnee.

5. Fall Bash at Deer Park Town Center

Shop and celebrate the autumn season as Deer Park Town Center hosts its Fall Bash. Youngsters will be delighted as the southwest Lake County party is highlighted by a mini pumpkin decorating session, touch a truck with the Lake Zurich Fire Department and balloon artists making complimentary keepsakes. The bash also features a plethora of live performances like a dance party with Bob the DJ, magic shows throughout the day, live pumpkin carving and sand sculpture demonstrations by local artists and various costumed characters and entertainers hitting the mainstage. The free admission event is located in the roads near the Pottery Barn traffic circle.

Saturday, October 23; noon-3 p.m. Free admission. Deer Park Town Center, 20530 N. Rand Rd., Deer Park.
