With the cooling weather comes the last opportunities to experience the outdoors without being bundled in layers. Watch homemade cinematic works of art, ride some coasters, relive a classic tale, knock out some shopping and celebrate cultural traditions. These are the things to do this weekend November 4-6, 2022.

Theatre season is the time for thespians to take in the performing arts. Make the most of the autumn weather and take to the trails of the Lake County Forest Preserves!

Here are the things to do this weekend November 4-6, 2022.

1. Local Cinema at the Lake County Film Festival

Celebrate local filmmakers and student video creators at the Lake County Film Festival. The hometown cinema festival features over 100 narrative films, documentary showcases and short flicks. “Rockin’ The Suburbs” features homemade music videos produced in Lake County communities. The College of Lake County hosts in-person screenings at its Grayslake Campus in rooms A011, C105, D100, T332 and T334. Additional short film screenings are held at the Gorton Center in Lake Forest on November 5. Festival showings go through November 6 and take a week-long break. The festival resumes the following weekend running November 11-14. To attend, guests must purchase a ticket to a short film, a feature movie, or a one-day, weekend or full festival pass. 2. Scream and Shout Bonus Weekends at Six Flags Great America

Six Flags Great America celebrates the last thrills of autumn with its Scream and Shout Bonus Weekends. The Gurnee amusement park is open for the first two weekends of November to experience the final thrills of the Raging Bull, Whizzer, Viper, THE JOKER Free-Fly Coaster and more beloved coasters. While at Six Flags Great America, try a variety of craft and seasonal beers complemented by German-inspired fare for the Oktoberfest Food Festival. Visit the Mooseburger Patio on select dates to sample a variety of entrees, appetizers, desserts and snacks. The Scream and Shout Bonus Weekends and the Oktoberfest Food Festival at Six Flags Great America run on select days through November 13.

Saturday-Sunday, November 5-6; Fri.-Sat.: noon-6 p.m. Admission: $50 and up. Six Flags Great America, 1 Great America Pkwy., Gurnee.

3. A Christmas Story at the Marriott Theatre

“You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!” is everyone’s favorite saying during the winter holidays. Visit the Marriott Theatre at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort to experience the live stage musical of “A Christmas Story.” The timeless yuletide tale tells the story of Ralphie Parker and his wish for a Red Ryder air rifle. Throughout the charming holiday tale, Ralphie deals with bullies, a disgruntled shopping mall elf & Santa duo, a malfunctioning furnace, his parents, a bar of soap and the iconic leg-shaped table lamp. The Broadway-hit musical adaption of the 1983 Bob Clark-directed movie has three Tony Award nominations. The movie continues to air on numerous television stations during the holiday season. The Marriott Theatre musical runs on select days through January 1, 2023.

Friday-Sunday, November 4-6, Fri.: 8 p.m., Sat.: 4 and 8 p.m., Sun.: 1 and 4 p.m. Admission: $55. Marriott Theatre at Lincolnshire Marriott Resort, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire.

4. Day of the Dead/Día de Los Muertos at the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center

Celebrate the cultural traditions that surround the Day of the Dead/Día de Los Muertos at the Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center. The free Friday festival features folkloric dancers, arts, crafts, sugar skulls and more. Live musical performances showcase Latin singers and Aztec dancers. The Round Lake Beach party also features traditional altars, food vendors and artisans selling a variety of wares. The Center invites guests to wear their best sugar skull-inspired fashion to this growing bonanza.

Friday, November 4; 5-9 p.m. Admission: free. Round Lake Beach Cultural & Civic Center, 2007 Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach.

5. Holiday Bazaar at the Libertyville Civic Center

Get a head start on the festive season’s shopping by visiting the Holiday Bazaar at the Libertyville Civic Center. The Saturday pop-up vendor shop features over 30 unique small businesses selling a wide array of crafts and wares. The vendor selections also are highlighted by sweet confections, body creams, painted rocks, pet food and supplies, books, baked goods, make-up and cosmetics, home-harvested honey and more. There is no admission to the shopping showcase and guests are eligible for giveaways. The first 25 shoppers will receive a free tote bag stuffed with multiple goodies, and youngsters can get their hands on goodies while supplies last.

Saturday, November 5; 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Admission: free. Libertyville Civic Center. 135 W. Church St., Libertyville.
