The train horn can be heard in the distance. That’s the sound of the Canadian Pacific Railway Holiday Train making its annual stop at Viking Park in Gurnee. This vastly illuminated 14-car train partners with local communities to raise food and funds for local food banks as well as raise awareness about hunger issues. The train will blare live holiday music, conduct a brief ceremony and will pass out candy canes for the kids. The choo-choo features live performances from Meghan Patrick, Tanika Charles and Kelly Prescott. There is a charter pickup from Saratoga Square (southeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue) and Riverside Plaza (northeast corner across from Six Flags Great America's employee entrance). Free parking at Saratoga Square and Riverside Plaza runs from 2-7 p.m. on December 2.

Monday, December 2; 5:10-6 p.m. Train arrives at 5:15 p.m. Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.

"Old Marley was as dead as a doornail." Jacob Marley and a cast of other memorable Charles Dickens characters are lined along Main and Lake Streets to offer visitors a cheerio to the holiday. This Olde English public art exhibit has over 40 lifelike mannequins spread along the streets, displaying over 25 different storylines and acting out different Dickens' scenes. Get the "bah humbug" out of your soul with these charming displays. Across town, Kringle’s Christmas Village illuminates Antioch. In an indoor storefront across the street from Piggly Wiggly, a plethora of shadowboxes provide that same nostalgia attained when enjoying Chicago’s Marshall Fields’ windows. Both villages in downtown Antioch are on display through January 1.

Friday-Sunday, November 29-December 1. Downtown Antioch.

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.” The Fox Lake Festival of Lights brightens the family spirit. The village’s holiday event is highlighted by a parade, the tree lighting, the Kris Kringle Winter Market and more. The parade steps off at Stanton School, marching down Grand Avenue and ending at Millennium Park where the tree is erected for the arbor lighting. “Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.”

Saturday, November 30; 2-8 p.m. Millennium Park, 71 Nippersink Blvd., Fox Lake.

It's probably due to bloody marys being a popular cure for a hangover, but we love them at any time, so we're celebrating the bloody mary two days early, with our Bloody Mary Bash today from 2-7pm. #getyourtomatoon #drinkbetter #bloodymarys
