We're already nearing mid-March and things are starting to look warmer, brighter (thanks to daylight savings occurring this Sunday) and overall more enjoyable!

We can't think of a better way to celebrate the extra hour of sunlight than to spend it at one of the nearly 60 Lake County Restaurant Week participants. 1. Lake County Restaurant Week

Discover delectable dishes from over 50 restaurants across Lake County for Ten Days to Savor. Lake County Restaurant Week is the perfect opportunity to explore new places to dine or enjoy old favorites. Each participating restaurant will be offering either a prix fixe menu or a special offer for patrons to choose from. Friday-Sunday, March 9-11; various times and locations throughout Lake County.

2. Wildlife Discovery Center's Reptile Rampage

Enthusiasts and experts from around the region will exhibit more than 150 cold-blooded creatures at the Wildlife Discovery Museum’s “Reptile Rampage.” Attendees at this Lake Forest event will have the opportunity to meet, handle and learn about snakes, lizards, turtles, tortoises and more.

Sunday, March 11; 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission $10. Lake Forest Recreation Center, 400 Hastings Road, Lake Forest.

3. PM&L Theatre's "Company"

Visit downtown Antioch this weekend to catch the PM&L Theatre’s new show, “Company.” The original production of this musical comedy was nominated for a record-setting 14 Tony Awards and won six. “Company” is a concept musical composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order. The show runs through March 25.

Friday-Sunday; March 9-11. Fri. and Sat. 8 p.m. Sun. 2:30 p.m. Admission $10-$18. PM&L Theatre, 877 N. Main Street, Antioch.

4. The Tempel Lipizzans' Behind the Scenes Tour

Head to Old Mill Creek this Saturday for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Tempel Lipizzans training program. Visitors can tour the stallion stables to learn about the history of the Austrian steeds, classical riding and the farm. There will be several opportunities to get to know the stallions as the final part of the tour includes a viewing of a daily training session and demonstrations of some of their many tricks.

Saturday, March 10; 9:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Admission $15-$25. Tempel Farms, 17000 Wadsworth Road, Old Mill Creek.

5. Ryerson Wood's Maple Syrup Hikes

Visit Lake County Forest Preserves’ Ryerson Woods this weekend for an authentic taste of something sweet on “Maple Syrup Hikes.” Ryerson Woods is one of the few places in Lake County where climate conditions are right for maple syrup production and where trees grow to diameter and height that allows tapping. Everyone gets a taste at this fun, family-friendly event. Hikes take one hour and begin in half-hour intervals.

Saturday-Sunday, March 10-11. Noon - 3 p.m. Admission $6. Edward L. Ryerson Welcome Center, 21950 N. Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods.
