Things To Do This Weekend March 16-18

We guess the old adage is true; time flies when you're having fun (and getting older). Lake County Restaurant Week has officially concluded and we want to give a huge thank-you to anyone that participated.

We also hope you all had an excellent Pi Day (3.14) and were able to celebrate accordingly with your favorite type of pie; pizza or dessert. With Saint Patrick's Day just around the corner, we look forward to another glorious day of food and activities. The first official day of Spring is less than a week away so let us 'spring' into the top Things To Do This Weekend March 16-18.

1. Shamrock the Block in Wauconda

Paint Wauconda green as the Lake County village throws its sixth annual Shamrock the Block St. Patrick’s Day festival. Shamrocks are available for purchase at various prices to be used for decorating venues by local shops and restaurants. The St. Paddy’s celebration features a parade, the leprechaun plunge, live music, an Ireland trip raffle, drink specials and much more.

Friday-Saturday, Mar. 16-17; Free admission. Various times and locations throughout downtown Wauconda.

2. Mickey Finn's St. Patrick's Events

Visit Libertyville’s popular Celtic restaurant and brewery, Mickey Finn’s, for a weekend full of St. Patrick’s Day events. On Friday morning, 95 WIIL Rock broadcasts the Tom & Emily Morning Show remotely from the brewery for all sorts of Irish fun. Later that evening, the band Fool House performs at 10 p.m. The Saturday festivities feature authentic Irish eats including corned beef, cabbage, fish and chips and shepherd’s pie, live tunes from Fitz & Celts and Hearthfire and special Irish libations.

Friday-Sunday, Mar. 16-18; Fri. 7:30 a.m.- Sat. 1:15 a.m., Sat. 11 a.m.- Sun.1:15 a.m.. Admission: $5 cover after 9 p.m. on Saturday. Mickey Finn’s Brewery, 345 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

3. "They Did Everything But Go to Sea" at the National Museum of the American Sailor

Celebrate Women’s History Month at the beautiful National Museum of the American Sailor. The Naval Station Great Lakes museum hosts guest speaker Dr. Regina Akers conducting  “They Did Everything but Go to Sea,” lecture. During World War I, large numbers of women were recruited into jobs vacated by men who had gone to fight. Akers speaks on the sacrifices and adversities women endured during these times. This lecture will be followed by a short Q&A session.

Saturday, Mar. 17; 6 p.m. Free admission. National Museum of the American Sailor, 2531 Sheridan Rd., Great Lakes.

4."Rockin' Road to Dublin" at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts

Jig on down to the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County for a live performance of Rockin’ Road to Dublin. The Grayslake musical event is a mix of Irish dance and rock and roll, complete with 14 Irish dancers, male and female leads vocals and an eight-piece band. Original choreography and an incredible technical mastery give this spectacular show a Broadway flourish.

Friday, Mar. 16; 8 p.m. Admission $15-$48. James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake.

5. Sara Evans at the Genesee Theatre

Award-winning country artist Sara Evans graces Genesee Theatre stage Evans earned over five no.1 singles, has sold millions of records and has dominated the country music scene for two decades. This prolific singer/songwritercaptivates audiences with her emotional performances and moving lyrics. Revered for her expertise in country music, Evans served as a consultant for the hit TV series, “Nashville,” an award-winning drama about making it in the tumultuous, cutthroat music industry.

Saturday, Mar. 17; 7:30 p.m.  Admission $37-$92. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.
