Ravinia Festival, North America's oldest outdoor music festival, begins its 2025 season this weekend with a diverse lineup at its Highland Park grounds. The summer programming kicks off Friday, June 6, with a performance by legendary rock and Grammy Award-winning band Heart. The iconic duo of Ann and Nancy Wilson return to Ravinia for the first time in over a decade. They are expected to deliver a powerful set including hits like "Barracuda," "Magic Man" and "Alone." Saturday, June 7, brings a unique double bill featuring Grace Jones and Janelle Monáe. With 10 Grammy nominations between the two, the ladies making their Ravinia debut fuse their theatrical performances with myriad genres like disco, punk, gospel and reggae. With more than 100 concerts scheduled from June through August, Ravinia Festival aims to be a cultural hub for music lovers. Sundays performance featuring The Mohan Sisters has been canceled. Athletes from across northern Illinois will swim, bike and run through one of the region’s most scenic racecourses when the Fox Lake Triathlon kicks off on Sunday, June 8. The triathlon features a sprint-distance course: a half-mile swim, a12-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run, designed for both seasoned triathletes and newer participants. The race begins with a triangular swim course in Nippersink Lake. Following the swim, athletes will transition to the 12-mile bike leg, which includes a mix of rolling hills and straightaways. The final 5K run is an out-and-back route, with more than two miles along a paved bike path, making for a flat and fast finish. After crossing the finish line, participants are invited to enjoy music, post-race food and a festive atmosphere at Lakefront Park. Hurricane Harbor Chicago, the 20-acre water park next to Six Flags Great America, is now open for the summer. The park offers more than 25 water attractions, including the world’s tallest water coaster in the ride Tsunami Surge, high-speed slides, a lazy river, a wave pool and kid-friendly splash zones. Hurricane Harbor Chicago operates separately from Six Flags Great America. Hurricane Harbor Chicago is open throughout the summer daily through Labor Day. The Mundelein Craft Beer Festival returns and will feature dozens of breweries, local food vendors and live music at the Village Hall Plaza in downtown Mundelein. Up to 40 breweries from the Chicagoland area and an estimated 2,000 attendees are expected. The festival is a collaboration between Tighthead Brewing and the Mundelein Community Connection (MCC). This year's brewery lineup includes several Lake County Libation Trail partners: 9th Hour Brewing Co. and Harbor Brewing Co. in Lake Villa, Buffalo Creek Brewing Co. in Long Grove, Half Day Brewing Co. in Lincolnshire, Perfect Brewing Supply and Mickey Finn's Brewery in Libertyville, Phase Three Brewing and Roaring Table Brewing Cos. in Lake Zurich and Steep Ravine Brewing Company in Highland Park. Two renowned Lake County small businesses, Romney Brown Candle Co. and Tony Cannoli, are partnering to host "Candles and Cannolis," a unique sensory event this weekend. The hands-on evening of candle-making and cannoli crafting will occur at Romney Brown Candle Co.'s Grayslake location. Tickets include all supplies for both activities and a takeaway pastry box. Guests will start by creating custom candles, selecting from various scent blends, vessel styles and colors. Romney Brown staff will guide attendees through the process. Tony Cannoli of Mundelein will then lead a live demonstration of artisan cannoli-making, with volunteers participating in hands-on steps. All visitors can fill three pre-made cannoli shells with their choice of flavored creams and toppings. Drinks will be available for purchase at the Candle Bar. Participants can enjoy their cannoli creations on-site or take them home. Tickets can be purchased through RomneyBrown.com.
