Let's look at Lake County's top five things to do this weekend, June 30-July 4.
Yankee Doodle went to Lincolnshire riding on a pony. His adventure to the Lake County village ended when he arrived at the Red, White, and Boom Fest (sans the cap, feather, and macaroni). This annual celebration's festivities include live entertainment, food, beer tent, a cardboard boat regatta, a reptile show, a dog show, a 5K, parade games, and a classic car show. The entertainment on July 3 includes Maggie Speaks, a band playing hit music from the 1960s to the present. The Lincolnshire Fest shoots off pyrotechnics at 9:30 p.m. on July 4. Deerfield hosts its 60th annual Family Days at Jewett and Shepard Parks. The two-day celebration includes fireworks, live music, a parade, arts and crafts tents, a 10K Race/5K Walk, rides, bike parade, and many other family fun-tivities. Independence Day live entertainment includes Uncle Sam's Band from 10 a.m.-noon. The fireworks show occurs at dusk on July 3. The "Heart of the Chain O' Lakes" will party American style with red, white, and blues at Celebrate Fox Lake at Lakefront Park. The Independence Day party will feature a parade at 11 a.m., a car show, live performances by Chicago Blues Hall of Famer Michael Charles and His Band, and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. over the Nippersink Lake. Hurrah for the flag of the free. May it wave as our standard forever" (cue the wicked piccolo solo). Mundelein Community Days is the place to be Fourth of July. The Village Plaza Circle fest includes musical performances, food, drinks, arts and crafts, a car show, a carnival, a "Through the Decades" parade, the annual Freedom Classic 5K/Walk, activities for kids and adults, and much more. The Independence Day Fireworks Show is held on July 4 at 9:30 p.m., while the parade steps off at 2 p.m. on July 2. The Mundelein Community Days musical entertainment lineup includes Kashmir and Real Time Noise on Saturday, Libido Funk Circus and Four C Notes on Sunday, Hillbilly Rockstarz and Mike & Joe on Monday, and Brushville and Brass from the Past on Tuesday. Wave your grand old flag at Six Flags Great America's Coca-Cola July 4 Fireworks Celebration. Besides the exciting 17-roller coasters, the splashtastic slides at Hurricane Harbor Chicago, and other fantastic thrills at Six Flags Great America, the four-day fest will feature a Coca-Cola® July 4th Zone with a live DJ, delicious eats, dance contests, live performances, and fireworks display each night before the park closes at 9:45 p.m. Running along the Independence Day celebration, the Gurnee amusement park also hosts its Flavors of the World Festival.
