Mickey Finn’s Brewery is making the most out of February’s extra day with their Finn’s & Friends Beer Fest. The Libertyville brewhouse fest features over a dozen local and Chicago breweries including Lake County Libation Trail™ partners Half Day Brewing Company of Lincolnshire, Light the Lamp Brewery of Grayslake, Only Child Brewing of Gurnee, Ravinia Brewing Company of Highland Park, Tighthead Brewing Company of Mundelein and of course the home brewery, Mickey Finn’s Brewery. Admission to this event includes a commemorative tasting glass, three free play pinball machines and a pizza buffet to pair with your glass of suds. VIP entry is highlighted by early entry, a glass commemorating the event and a $20 Mickey Finn’s gift card. Attendees must be age 21 or older. Tickets are available at MickeyFinnsBrewery.com.

3. College of Lake County Presents: The CLC Salute to Gospel at Genesee Theatre

The College of Lake County is hosting its 36th annual Salute to Gospel Concert this Saturday at the Genesee Theatre. This event on the Waukegan stage stars Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee Bishop Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Crusade Choir. Johaan Cotton-Wilson and Effie Rolfe are your emcees for an evening featuring special guests, including the College of Lake County Gospel Choir, Dr. Sandra Leconte, Mark Cosey and Charles Hayes. Be sure to grab your tickets before this concert is “souled out.”

Saturday, February 29; 7 p.m. Admission $26-$33. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.

4. Vernon Hills Craft Beer Tasting

Suds aficionados can converge on the Sullivan Community Center this Saturday for the seventh annual Vernon Hills Park District Craft Beer Tasting. This beer bash features selections from breweries on the Lake County Libation Trail™, including Buffalo Creek Brewing Company of Long Grove, Bosacki’s Brewery and Tighthead Brewing Company of Mundelein, Mickey Finn’s Brewery of Libertyville, Ravinia Brewing Company of Highland Park and more. Rock out to the sounds of live music performed by cover band Dizzy Edge. Delectable eats are available for purchase from local vendors. Attendees must be age 21 or older.

Saturday, February 29; 5-9 p.m. Admission: $35. Designated Driver: $5. Sullivan Community Center, 635 N. Aspen Dr., Vernon Hills.

5. 30th Annual Black History Celebration in Zion

Celebrate Black History Month with friends and family this weekend at the 30th annual Black History Program at Zion-Benton Township High School. This free event hosted by the Zion Park District features singing, dancing, guest speakers, poetry and more. Live performances include appearances by emcee David S. Osborne Sr., Eureka Missionary Baptist Choir from Chicago, Racine, WI Poet Laureate Kenyatta Turner, a dance by Zion-Benton High School Hip Hop Club and guest speaker, the Mayor of Zion Billy McKinney. Visit the city’s high school hungry because lunch will be served following the program by caterers Patricia Taylor and Virgil McMillan of Waukegan.
