MainStreet Libertyville’s highly-regarded First Fridays officially begin again this weekend. Take a stroll after dinner to one of the many fine restaurants and shops to find various activities and special promotions throughout the many locations. Attendees are encouraged to listen to the live music, participate in wine tastings and many activities along the village’s quaint main street.
Friday, April 6; 6 – 9 p.m. Free admission. Downtown Libertyville, Rt. 21, Libertyville.
On Saturday, Chicago Botanic Garden hosts Gumballs and Superballs; an educational class for families. Children between ages four and ten will discover how to use parts of rainforest trees to make chewing gum and rubber. Attendees can create a bouncing ball and flavorful gum to take home as a souvenir. Please note that the program includes the use of liquid latex.
Saturday, April 7; 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. or 1 – 2:30 p.m. Admission $24 per child. Chicago Botanic Garden, 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe.
Enjoy some of Illinois’ sweetest history this Saturday at the Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum. Attendees will learn about well-known candy companies that have been a part of Chicago’s rich history from the likes of Tootsie Roll, Brach’s, Fannie May, Frango Mints and more.
Saturday, April 7; 2 p.m. Free admission. Grayslake Heritage Center and Museum, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake.
Offbeat and hilarious, comedian Maria Bamford is a favorite to many. On Saturday, Bamford will steal the Genesee Theatre’s stage for a night of knee-slapping and imaginative humor. Maria has appeared on numerous television shows and commercials on top of her comedy career. In 2014, she was honored with the American Comedy Award for Best Club Comic.
Saturday, April 7; 8 p.m. Admission $33.50 - $42.50. Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.
Make a trip to the John & Nancy Hughes Theater in Lake Forest this Sunday for a feel-good, children’s production. Moon Mouse: A Space Odyssey is a Lightwire Theatre production about Marvin the mouse who goes on a space adventure to escape bullying where he meets a cast of misfit creatures to find his true, inner beauty.
Sunday, April 8; 11 a.m.-Noon and 3 – 4 p.m. Admission $15. John & Nancy Hughes Theater, 400 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest.
