"You are not Atlas carrying the world on your shoulder. It is good to remember that the planet is carrying you," said Indian activist Vandana Shiva. In commemoration of Earth Day, the Adler Art Center in Libertyville hosts a free outdoor festival. The Libertyville environment and education party is highlighted by adding art to an upcycled group art project, litter cleanup, historical nuggets of sugar maple trees concerning indigenous people, a drum circle, and so much more. The Adler Center encourages attendees to wear sturdy shoes and dress in their scuzzies as their threads get dirty. To register, visit AdlerCenter.org.

Saturday, April 29, 2-4:30 p.m. The Adler Arts Center, 1700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

"Come on, ride the train; hey, ride it!" These choo choos may be a bit tiny to jump aboard. That noise isn't the approaching Metra; it's the engine from Train Day at Lambs Farm. Youngsters can make their best Casey Jones impression wearing the conductor hat while operating the digital command control system of the model trains. All aboard, as the Valley Model Railroad Club hosts this family-fun, free-admission event at the Libertyville/Green Oaks-area farm. Visit LambsFarm.org for more information.

Saturday, April 29; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Lambs Farm, 14245 W. Rockland Rd., Libertyville.

Everyone's favorite lacrosse/basketball/bumper car fusion game is the perfect place for summer fun. Bump, collide, and compete against your friends in the unique bumper car sport WhirlyBall. The play place also has a little something for adults in the libation department. Besides delectable eats, WhirlyBall has a vast selection of brews while the youngsters duke it out (or you join in on the fun). You can also have a sci-fi expedition as you and the kids zap either in laser tag.

Friday-Sunday, April 28-30. Multiple price points. WhirlyBall, 285 Center Dr., Vernon Hills.
