Present and Past Lake County Winter Olympians and Where to Watch the Milan Games 2026 in Lake County

By: Jonathan Jones 02/04/2026

John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare" is playing on everyone's Spotify right now as the best Lake County Olympians head to Itally in February. The Olympic games are packed with Prairie State dwellers. According to the Chicago Tribune, since 1896, Illinois residents have taken home over 250 Olympic gold, silver or bronze medals. The City of Lake Forest leads the pack for our fair county with 18 medal recipients historically. This year marks the largest ever winter U.S. Olympic Team totaling 232 athletes.

Everyone is ready to see stellar dramatics that the Olympics always provide for us. While you're in town, or if you live in the area, there are plenty of venues where you can grab a bite to eat, wet your whistle and watch these winter athletes strut (or scoot their stuff) during the games in Milan. Better yet, besides the games getting televised in the land of lakes, there's something tasty going on in February.

Making his U.S. Championships debut with former partner Tarah Kayne - they would ultimately win a title in 2016. The former Gurnee resident retired twice before returning. He was originally a coach to his now partner Ellie Kam in 2022, and when he put the skates back on one last time, their chemistry flourished. O'Shea is the oldest U.S. Olympic figure skater from any country to make his Olympic debut. O'Shea attended St. Patrick's in Wadsworth and briefly went to Carmel Catholic in Mundelein.

As a mere nine-year old, the Wauconda resident took his first ski jump and he never looked back. Fast forward to present day, Bickner punched his ticket for his third berth into the Olympic games. The highest he has finnished is 18th in the normal hill competition and 20th in the large hill competition - both done at the Pyeongchang games in South Korea. He hopes to bring home some hardware to the land of lakes.
