Handel’s Alcina Starring Nicole Cabell at Ravinia Festival

Soprano Nicole Cabell stars in Handel’s Alcina, a mesmerizing tale of passion, power, and illusion from the golden era of Baroque opera. Known for her expressive voice and captivating stage presence, Cabell brings to life the title character, a powerful sorceress who lures men into her enchanted realm, only to transform them at her whim. The opera, filled with intricate arias and dramatic twists, explores themes of love, betrayal, and transformation, weaving a rich tapestry of emotion and magical intrigue.

Conducted by Craig Trompeter, the performance is semi-staged in the historic Martin Theatre, allowing the singers and orchestra to shine in equal measure. Haymarket Opera’s acclaimed period-instrument orchestra, known for its exceptional attention to historical detail and expressive playing, accompanies the singers, providing a vivid soundscape that evokes the Baroque period in all its glory.

The cast also includes Elizabeth DeShong as Bradamante, Emily Fons as Ruggiero, Erica Schuller as Morgana, Eric Ferring as Oronte, and David Govertsen as Melisso. Together, this exceptional ensemble breathes life into the complex characters of Alcina, delivering a captivating performance where passion, power, and illusion intertwine.

Public gates open at noon and the performance begins at 1 p.m.
