With “bravado [and] flair” (San Diego Story), Canadian-born pianist Tony Siqi Yun brings exceptional artistry and technical prowess to a program of masterworks in his Ravinia debut. A rising star in the classical music world, Yun has been praised for his refined touch and commanding stage presence.
In Beethoven’s “Appassionata” Sonata, Yun captures the stormy passion and striking contrasts of one of the composer’s most intense and emotionally charged works. Adding to the program’s depth, he takes on Liszt’s powerful arrangement of Wagner’s “Liebestod” from Tristan und Isolde, transforming Wagner’s soaring melodies into a breathtakingly rich piano work. The program also features Busoni’s Elegies, a hauntingly beautiful piece that merges delicate sonorities with harmonic complexity, as well as Schumann’s Symphonic Etudes, a dazzling set of variations that blends virtuosity with poetic expression.
