The 26th Annual First Responders Expo, sponsored by Gurnee Mills and the Lake County Fire & Police Chiefs, will be held on Saturday, May 17th, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in Parking Lot E of Gurnee Mills. This free, family-friendly event focuses on fire and police safety education, offering children and families the opportunity to learn through interactive activities and demonstrations. Attendees can explore over 20 fire trucks and police vehicles from Lake County departments, meet the K-9 team, and enjoy food trucks.
A significant feature of the expo is the return of the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit, an 83-foot tractor-trailer that transforms into an 1,100 square foot exhibit dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The exhibit includes artifacts, videos, and recordings, and is staffed by FDNY firefighters who provide firsthand accounts. A welcoming ceremony for the mobile exhibit, hosted by the Lake County Fire Chiefs Association, will take place on Friday, May 16th at 1:00 PM in Parking Lot E. This exhibit is provided by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
The event is part of a series of community activities at Gurnee Mills, including public skating, sensory play sessions, and other themed events.
