Things To Do This Weekend January 26-28

And just like that, it's the final weekend of January! Pretty soon we'll be gladly welcoming spring and all that it has to offer. But until then, we can make the most of what we have currently with some of Lake County's abundant events and activities!

This week, we've added another member to the Lake County Libation Trail putting the number up to nearly 15 breweries, wineries and distilleries! Glunz Family Winery and Cellars in Grayslake has been an award-winning maker since 1888! See the Libation Trail participants here.

1. "Ragtime" at the Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire

Explore the timeless juxtaposition of wealth and poverty as “Ragtime” begins at the Marriott Theatre Lincolnshire. Set in New York at the turn of the century, this Lincolnshire musical weaves together three distinctly American tales of an aristocratic wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem African American musician. The original production of the Broadway show in 1998 was the winner of four Tony Awards including Best Original Score. The Lincolnshire show runs through March 31.

Friday-Sunday; Jan. 26-28. Various times. Admission $52-$57. Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire.

 

2. The 8th Annual "The Sleds Are Coming" Hockey Event

Witness an incredible display of athletics at the eighth annual “The Sleds are Coming” hockey event at Lake Forest College Ice Rink. The free admission ice competition consists of three 12-minute periods of five-on-five sled hockey, featuring members of the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA) Falcons. Attendees can participate in the Chuck-a-puck competition, view a demo by the Junior Falcons Mite players, enter the event’s raffle and bid on a silent auction. Bidding is open for the silent auction. Call Cherie at 847-283-0908 to bid. Winners of this auction can take home four alumni box seats to a February Chicago Blackhawks game or other excellent prizes.

Very thankful to have met @stenny_unpolished, who has welcomed me to PM&L theater, as I will be performing in my first musical since high school. Also proud of myself for just doin' it & not being a baby about it. I've really missed the theater. Come see me sing an Arabic sounding, nasally, unintelligible song while playing finger cymbals & dance the flamenco in Man of LaMancha at the end of March! Such a great cast. // ???⚔️

3. "See How They Run" at the P.M.&L. Theatre

“See How They Run” opens this weekend at Antioch’s historic PM&L Theatre.  This hit British comedy was written by Philip King. Its title mimics a line from the nursery rhyme “Three Blind Mice” and is considered a farce for its tense comic situations and headlong humor, heavily playing on mistaken identity, doors and vicars. The show runs on weekends through February 11.

Friday-Sunday, Jan 26-28; Fri.-Sat. 8 p.m., Sun. 2:30 p.m. Admission $10-$15. PM&L Theatre, 877 Main St., Antioch.

4. 102.3 WXLC - Lake County Bridal Show

Wedding season rapidly approaches. Brides and grooms-to-be will want to visit the annual Lake County Bridal Show hosted by 102.3 XLC at the DoubleTree by Hilton Libertyville-Mundelein. This event features over 50 vendors from photographer to florist and dance halls to DJs and so much more. The Mundelein event also is highlighted by a fashion show, live music, a cash bar, door prizes and a chance to win a tropical honeymoon to Aruba.

5. Dandelion Gallery's Chili Cook-off

Beat the winter blues at the Dandelion Gallery’s Chili Cook-off in downtown Waukegan.  Attendees can sample a variety of delectable chili recipes. Local cooks compete to take home the coveted Best Overall chili award. These chili connoisseurs also contend for various awards in other categories including Best Taste, Best Presentation, Spiciest and Most Innovative Ingredients prizes. Bon appétit!

Saturday, Jan. 27; 4 - 6 p.m. Admission $5-$10. Dandelion Gallery, 109 S. Genesee St., Waukegan.
